JV and MS Football Teams End Seasons with Close Victories

OCT. 19 -- The JV and Middle School Football teams finished their seasons today with nail-biting victories over their respective opponents.

The Middle School team played Mount Vernon in a crossover game to compete for a spot in the Metro 10 playoffs. After the Patriots fumbled near the goal line early in the game, Mount Vernon ran the ball 93 yards into the endzone to take the lead 6-0. Both teams struggled back and forth through the rest of the first half and on into the 4th quarter.

Late in the game, the Patriots marched down the field into scoring position. With one minute left on the clock and on 4th down, Joy Chane (7) made a one-yard plunge into the endzone and then made the point after attempt to put the Patriots up 7-6. Though Mount Vernon pushed down the field to their own 35-yard line in the remaining seconds, a close tackle and game-ending interception by Brady Nardella (7) sealed the victory for the Patriots.

Despite the close win, the Middle School team did not make it into the top two teams in the Metro 10 East in order to advance to the playoffs, but they ended the season with a winning 4-3 record overall.

The JV team took on North Cobb Christian School (NCCS) in their own final crossover game. Despite NCCS taking an early 6-0 lead by the end of the 1st quarter, the Patriots, led by freshman quarterback Coleman Smith, continued to fight. Both teams traded touchdowns throughout the game, sophomore Will Pascucci scoring two touchdowns for the Patriots, freshman Garrett Sutherland scoring one, and freshman kicker Owen Lindsay making all three extra point attempts. Pascucci also intercepted a 2-point conversion attempt by NCCS after their third touchdown to bring the Patriots to a 21-20 win and end the season.

The Varsity Football team (6-1, 5-0), seeking to remain undefeated in the region, will play tomorrow night (Oct. 20) at Fellowship at 7:30 p.m.
